Investigating Floral Evolution in Australia

1 1/2 Hours

Climbing High: Investigating Floral Evolution in Australia

Juan Losada, Putnam Scholar, and John DelRosso, Head Arborist, Arnold Arboretum
1 Session: Tuesday, January 22, 6:00pm Refreshments; 6:30pm Lecture
Location: Hunnewell Building

Visiting Researcher Juan Losada and Head Arborist John DelRosso will discuss their recent trip to the rainforest of Queensland, Australia to collect fruit of Austrobaileya scandens, an evergreen, woody, tropical vine. Theirs was only the second expedition from the Arnold Arboretum to Queensland, the last one having taken place 50 years ago. Collections were made as part of Director Ned Friedman’s ongoing research into the origins of flowering plants, and Ned will introduce the talk and speakers following light refreshments in the Visitor Center. Come learn more about current research at the Arboretum, and enjoy a glimpse into contemporary plant exploration.
